July '08 NewHeadquarters Opens!
February '13 In news around town, a second ski resort has opened in town in the Mt. Evans area. This is expected to bring an increase in tourist to the town which should benefit all aspects of the town, but also increase the need of town services and public safety services. Many residents are happy this has come to pass and think it should be economically good for the Town.
March '13 A plan has been finalized for the restructuring of the department to meet the changing needs of the town. The significant increase in EMS calls and the decrease in advanced EMT's among the call personnel has forced the fire district to increase the number of full time personnel assigned to the four rescues. A total of four new positions will be created in the first year of the plan. These positions will run on the traditional second shift during weekdays to give each rescue two personnel monday thru friday from 8 am until midnight. Additionally, the current rescue lieutenants will become rescue captains, and a promotional exam will be held to promote four EMT/FF's to rescue lieutenants. The goal by the end of the second year of this plan is for each of the four rescues to have 8 personnel assigned to them so that each will have 2 personnel on duty 24/7.
Also, the fire marshal, currently a ranking captain will become a Division Chief and be in charge of the Division of Fire Prevention. The EMS Director (also a captain) will become the Division Chief in charge of the Division of Emergency Medical Services. These positions as well as the current rescue lieutenants becoming rescue captains are promotions in rank only. All salaries will remain the same, as the duties of these individuals will not change much. This plan will take effect on July 1, 2013.
